The Ancient Magus' Bride Season 2 Episode 7 Review: Slow and Sure. (I)

The Ancient Magus' Bride is a fantasy romance anime series based on the manga of the same name by Kore Yamazaki. The story follows Chise Hatori, a girl who can see magical creatures and who is sold to Elias Ainsworth, a mysterious magus who becomes her teacher and husband. Together, they explore the world of magic and learn more about each other.

In episode 7, titled "Slow and Sure. I", we see the past and present of Philomela Sargant, one of the students at the College of Magic. Philomela was abused by her father, who used her as a tool for his experiments. She was rescued by Rian Scrimgeour, a young magus who became her friend and protector. However, their friendship was cut short when Rian died in an accident caused by Philomela's father.

In the present, Philomela is still haunted by her trauma and guilt. She tries to avoid Chise, who reminds her of Rian. She also has a strained relationship with Lucy Webster, another student who is jealous of her talent and popularity. However, things start to change when Chise invites Philomela to join her and the others on a trip to Scotland.

The trip is organized by Elias, who wants to visit his old friend Lindel and learn more about his origins. He also hopes to help Chise recover from her recent ordeal with Renfred and Alice. Along with them are Ruth, Silky, Titania, Oberon, Spriggan, and Stella Barklem.

The episode ends with a cliffhanger, as several mysterious figures retrieve something from a drawer in the college's basement. They seem to have a sinister plan involving Chise and the others.

This episode was a moving and intriguing one that showed the backstory of Philomela and her connection to Chise. It also showed how Chise has grown as a character and how she tries to help others with her kindness and empathy. The animation and music were also beautiful, especially during the scenes in Scotland. The episode also raised some questions about Elias's past and what will happen to Chise and the others on their trip.

Overall, this episode was a great one that delivered a heartfelt story and mystery. It also set up the stage for the next episode, which will likely focus on Elias and Lindel's reunion and the threat looming over Chise and the others.
